Nubian Jam

Fellowship and Community Connectedness

Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee (SCBH) hosted the 33rd Nubian Jam; one of Everett’s largest and longest running community events, celebrating African and African American culture. Held at Forest Park, free and open to all, the event had live music, open mic announcements and dance celebrations, resource tables from local community-based organizations, local handmade clothing and craft vendors, and several local food vendors

Providence Swedish Caregivers and WSU Internal Medicine Residents joined, the celebrations and community connectedness, sharing resource tables for blood pressure and stroke education prevention. WSU Internal Medicine Residents provided free blood pressure checks to event attendees. Our Stroke Coordinator was onsite, aiming to help members of the African and African American community learn how to spot a stroke, what to do if a stroke is suspected, and how to prevent having a stroke. Providence Institute for a Healthier Community (PIHC) shared about www.LiveWellLocal.org – our local resource hub with over 2,400 resources, based in Snohomish County. With the help of our health studies fieldwork student from University of Washington- Bothell, we were able to engage and interact with several folks who attended the event.

Thank you SCBH for a great event!
