Lifestyle Modification Study

Providence Institute for a Healthier Community (PIHC) is pleased to introduce a first-of-its-kind, medical research study of 1500 enrollees in Snohomish County. This 2-year study will examine the effect of lifestyle modification on predicted medical costs within the region.
Our goal is to make Snohomish County one of the healthiest places to live, work and play, through increased health prevention and disease reduction. The Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is a tool to reach out to at-risk individuals with high-risk lifestyle diseases and help them modify their lifestyles and behaviors for improved health outcomes.
CHIP has been proven to:
- Reduce stroke risk
- Normalize blood pressure
- Lower cholesterol
- Lessen depression
- Lower fasting blood glucose
- Lower weight/BMI
More than just a diet and exercise program, CHIP offers nutritional information, education on managing health conditions, medical screenings, stress management strategies, group support and tips for success through video learning and facilitated discussions. The program is delivered in 18, hour-long session over 9 weeks and includes healthy food samplings along the way.
To qualify for the program, study participants should have a BMI over 30 and been diagnosed with one of the following conditions:
- High Cholesterol
- Heart Disease

CHIP has been used successfully by many businesses to improve health, reduce medical risk factors and lower overall medical expenditures. Studies have shown reduced healthcare costs of $2,000 per year for employees who have successfully completed the program. Participants enjoy better health, have less absenteeism and are more productive in the workplace.
We are currently seeking Snohomish County employers to host CHIP at their organization.
Hosting CHIP at your workplace is easy and convenient
Employers are responsible for providing:
- An informational recruitment session
- Willing participants who meet program criteria
- Facilitator(s) to lead classes
- Designated meeting space (up to 25 people)
- Healthy food for sampling
- Facilitator training
- Information/educational support
- Patient Lifestyle Kits at a cost of $150 per participant (regularly $249)
